Sophia de Young

Sophia is the creative behind Botanical Preserves. Raised in an artistic household, she’s worked with multiple mediums over the years, constantly appreciating the subtle shapes, movement, and tones in a composition. While in school, she took classes on art history and black and white film photography. Her floral venture began in 2018 while working on a photoshoot in a florist’s studio. She became enamored of the floral design process, which is how she fell into this new form of design.

Having a fascination with the realm of plants and their healing powers, Sophia surrounds herself with botanicals and their many elements. The concept of floral design as a living, restorative, art form has lead to a deep and ever-growing respect for flowers and their unique personality. Their nature of fragility adds to their elusiveness, and gives her the opportunity to exhibit the never-to-be-replicated side of her personality every time she works with floral product. Botanical Preserves is a perfect representation of each of her works.

She loves to work with her local growers, and sources from independent farms or forages whenever possible. Many of Botanical Preserves’ event flowers are locally sourced and grown using organic practices.

A bay area native, Sophia now resides in Sacramento, California, but loves to travel and be outdoors. The beauty of the landscape around her is a source of inspiration and she spends most of her free time exploring her home state, from the cliffs of the Pacific coast to the lakes in the Sierras. She is constantly expanding her travel logs as her work takes her to unexplored territories.
